An Arrest Has Been Made For NYC Subway Shooting

Police have arrested Frank R. James for carrying out an attack that included shooting 10 people onboard an NYC train. The attack happened during rush hour Tuesday morning on a Manhattan bound N train. Witnesses stated that a man wearing wearing a green vest threw two canisters that immediately filled the train car with smoke and began to fire into the crowd. According to the NYPD, James fired 33 times and ended up shooting 10 passengers. Subway riders expressed how the next few moments were very chaotic from people screaming and running for their lives. 23 people have been injured and 5 people were left critically injured. The victims were taken to Kings County Hospital, NYU Langone, Brooklyn Methodist and Maimonides Medical Center. Four children between the ages of 12 and 16 were also shot.

Police found the gun at the scene along with a bag filled with fireworks and smoke canisters. They also found a spray bottle filled with gasoline and a hatchet. In a backpack found under the suspects seat authorities found a handgun still filled with ammunition that they used to trace the original owner. At first James was only a person of interest but quickly became a suspect after police discovered a key at the scene that belonged to a U-haul left parked on Kings Highway and was ultimately traced back to the suspect.

James was arrested around 2pm after he called Crime Stoppers to report himself. During the call James stated that he was the guy that police were looking for and that he could be found at a local McDonald’s. Police did not find him at the McDonald’s but with the help of New Yorkers who saw someone fitting his description walking around the East Village. Police arrested James while he sat at a NYC hub attempting to charge his phone.

Authorities stated that James did not resist arrest and seemed unbothered by what he had done. He is being charged with causing a terroristic act on a mass transit system and he is facing life in prison.
